A third of Brits cutting back on non-essential journeys to save money
About a third (33%) of people in the UK are cutting out non-essential travel in a bid to save money, figures from the Office for National Statistics show.
Although still a significant proportion of the population, this is down from a high of 51% in August last year.
And prices at the pump also fell in the 12 months to March by 5.9%, after seven consecutive months of slowing increases. A litre of petrol now costs an average of 146.8p, while diesel stands at 166.5p.
To make sure you’re getting the lowest possible price for your fuel, you can use an app like the one from Petrol Prices.
Elsewhere rail prices were up 5.3% in the year to March – still a rise, but the joint-lowest increase since June 2022.
Are you struggling?
Despite some positive signs when it comes to the price of travel, the cost of living is still proving unaffordable for many.
