According to research by Mastercard, almost half (48%) of Brits plan to spend more on experiences in 2025, including:

  • travel
  • arts and theatre
  • live music
  • family occasions
  • foodie experiences

Interestingly, this figure goes up to 65% among 18 to 28-year-olds.

Brits prioritising their spending

Notably, many people are making sure they can afford precious experiences by making cutbacks in other areas, including:

  • buying luxury treats - 36%
  • dining out - 36%
  • buying coffees and takeaways - 35%

Nearly eight in ten (78%) said they’re looking to see how experiences fit into their budget and savings goals.

At the same time, three-quarters (75%) said they’re checking whether experiences offer good value when compared with others.

Gen Z want ‘bucket list experiences’ in 2025

Many people surveyed said they want to enjoy so-called bucket list experiences over the next few months.

More than six in ten (61%) revealed that they’re planning to tick something off their bucket list this year.

Notably, this view was strongest among younger adults, with 83% of 18 to 28-year-olds planning a bucket list experience in 2025, along with 75% of 29 to 44-year-olds.

Figures also showed that nearly one in five people (18%) want to enjoy two bucket list experiences this year.

Commenting on the findings, Beatrice Cornacchia of Mastercard said: “We’re seeing a shift in consumer priorities this year, with people making savings in everyday spending to afford bucket list experiences they’ve always dreamed of.”
