Dangerous gas hobs - is yours affected?
Eleven gas hob manufacturers have been ordered to contact customers they’ve sold hobs to and check they’re safe after someone suffered serious burns when their hob exploded in April.
A faulty elbow joint used to connect certain models to the gas supply has led to several reported incidents, and there’s concern that not fixing the fault could result in gas poisoning, burns, gas explosion or fire.
Hobs affected come from the following manufacturers:
- Apelson Appliances UK Ltd
- Buy It Direct Ltd
- Comfee
- Glen Dimplex Home Appliances
- Kingfisher International Products Ltd
- Lancaster Holdings Ltd
- Maurice Lay Distributors Ltd
- Midea UK Ltd
- Product Care trading Ltd
- Shop Direct Home Shopping Ltd
- Stax Trades Centres Ltd
- Swan
- The Wright Buy
- Comfee
How do you know if you have one of the dangerous hobs?
If you’re unsure if your hob is affected, you’re being urged to check its model number. Once you have it, visit the manufacturer’s website which will tell you if it needs attention or not.
What should you do if you have a dangerous hob?
If you have one of the dangerous hobs, you should contact the manufacturer immediately and arrange for them to come out and check it. You’re being warned that if you smell gas or are concerned, you should contact the National Gas Emergency Helpline on 0800 111 999 or a gas safe registered installer.
It’s particularly important that people who own caravans or live in one check their hobs urgently. If they’re on the affected list and connected to Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), you should disconnect it from the cylinder and call the manufacturer to arrange to have it made safe.
