Previously, energy customers could receive up to £1,500 in aid from the fund. but this amount recently increased to £2000 due to the ongoing struggle many people face with living costs, and energy bills.

You don’t have to be a British Gas customer to apply.

You can apply for the grant if:

  • You have energy debt up to £1,500 and have a credit energy account or use a pre-payment meter in your home
  • The energy account must be in the name of the applicant
  • You live in England, Scotland, or Wales
  • You’ve not received a grant from the British Gas Energy Trust within the last two years
  • You’ve already received help from a money advice agency
  • You’re in or facing fuel poverty

Apply here.

Not eligible?

If you're not eligible but need help with your energy bills, some other suppliers offer grants .

If your supplier isn't listed here, you should still contact them to try to come to an arrangement to pay off your debt.
