Food banks seeing highest ever demand
Over 3.1 million emergency food parcels were handed out by the Trussell Trust between April 2023 and March 2024, the charity has revealed.

This is the highest annual figure ever seen by the food bank network and almost double the number distributed five years ago.
More than a third of the food parcels (1.1 million) were for children.
Time for action
Commenting on the figures, Chief Executive of the Trussell Trust Emma Revie said:
“Food banks are not the answer.
“They will be there to support people as long as they are needed, but our political leaders must take bold action to build a future where everyone has enough money to afford life’s essentials.”
Struggling to pay for food?
If you require an emergency food parcel, you’ll need to get a voucher from a care professional in your area. This includes:
- health visitors
- school staff
- social workers
Contact your local food bank to find out who can issue a voucher in your area.
