How to decorate your home for less this Christmas
The countdown to Christmas is on. If you haven’t decorated yet, don’t worry, you can still give your home a festive makeover without breaking the bank.
Here’s how you can do it on a budget:
Use wrapped presents as décor
Who says presents have to stay hidden until Christmas morning? Wrap your gifts as you buy them and use them as part of your decorations. Place them under the tree or in front of the fire – it’s an easy, cost-free way to create some festive cheer.
Keep it simple
Minimalism isn’t just super trendy, it’s wallet-friendly too! A bit of tinsel over the door or red ribbons on the hearth can make a big impact without costing much. Even better, make your own bows and ribbons using scrap fabric – no extra cost with a personal touch!
Go on a festive forage
Get outside and have a festive forage! Grab pine cones, holly, mistletoe and red berries. These natural treasures can be used to create beautiful displays around your home for free. Plus, it’s a fun activity the kids will love.
Light up the room with candles
There’s nothing quite like the flickering flame of a candle to add some festive warmth. You can find bundles of candles at places like IKEA for under £5. Better still - scatter scented candles around the home for cosy lighting and festive aromas.
Shop at charity shops
Charity shops are a goldmine for budget-friendly Christmas decorations. You’ll find second hand items that are nearly as good as new and for great prices. Spend a bit of time rummaging and you’ll bound to uncover some hidden gems.
Repurpose old items
Get creative by repurposing what you already have. Old jam jars, vases, plant pots, or cardboard boxes can easily be transformed into festive décor with some glitter or tinsel. Even better, get the kids involved!
Make your own snow
Instead of forking out on the real thing, make your own snow by breaking polystyrene packaging into bits and sprinkling it over indoor plants or around the home for a white Christmas effect.
Hang up your Christmas cards
Another great trick is to hang up Christmas cards and turn them into a decorative feature. All you’ll need is a bit of string you can attach the cards to, then drape it round the hearth or doorframe and you’ll have a fabulous festive feature without spending anything.
Happy decorating!
