Hundreds of thousands of families to make big energy savings under new scheme
More than 300,000 homes across England, Wales and Scotland are to get insulation installed under a new scheme.
The Great British Insulation Scheme is expected to cut an average yearly energy bill by between £300 and £400.
How does the scheme work?
Families in lower council tax bands with less energy-efficient homes will be offered upgrades allowing them to heat their properties for less. Upgrades will include things like roof, loft and cavity wall insulation.
Who will benefit?
You may be eligible for support under the scheme if:
- your home has an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of D or below; and
- you’re in council tax band A-D in England or A-E in Wales and Scotland
Check if you qualify
Use the online checker for the Great British Insulation Scheme to see if you qualify.
You’ll be asked questions about:
- how you heat your home
- if you have solid or cavity walls
- if you get any benefits
Separate help for off-the-gas-grid homes
If your home is off the gas grid and it has an EPC rating of D to G, you may be able to get help to make your property more energy efficient under a separate scheme. Check whether you qualify for a Home Upgrade Grant.
What happens if I qualify for help?
If you qualify for help, you’ll be referred to your energy supplier for support under the Great British Insulation Scheme or your local council for the Home Upgrade Grant.
