Tesco’s £2 Easter food bags could be a lifeline for struggling families
With Easter around the corner, many families are feeling the squeeze, especially with free school meals taking a break for the holidays. The extra food shop can put real pressure on already stretched budgets.

To help, Tesco has launched a new donation scheme and is asking those who can afford it to get involved. It’s a simple idea that could make a big difference to families struggling to make ends meet.
What’s in the donation bags?
The bags are pre-filled with long-life food items like pasta, pulses and sauces - things food banks and community groups often ask for. You’ll find them near the front of large Tesco stores, ready to pick up and add to your shop.
Each bag costs between £2 and £3. Just pop it in the collection point on your way out. Tesco’s charity partners FareShare and the Trussell Trust will then pass the food on to local families who need it most.
Why it matters
More people than ever are turning to food banks right now. According to FareShare, demand has jumped by 86%, and the Trussell Trust says it’s handed out 37% more emergency food parcels than last year. Many people using these services have never needed help before.
The Easter break can be a particularly tough time. With kids off school and food bills going up, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Tesco’s donation bags are one way people can support each other during a difficult period.
Want to help?
If you’re able to, picking up a donation bag next time you’re in Tesco is a quick and easy way to support families in your area.
You can also choose to round up your total at the till, with the extra going straight to Tesco’s partner charities.
And if you’re struggling yourself, you’re not alone. There’s help out there. We’ve pulled together advice on free school meals, food bank referrals and extra support for families during the school holidays to help you get through Easter with less stress.
