When you receive the letter, you need to act within three months or your benefit payments may stop.

You’re encouraged to apply online. But if you can’t do this, call the universal-credit-migration-notice helpline.

Citizens Advice also run a help-to-claim service

Other people set to receive migration letters

If you’re receiving employment and support allowance (ESA) with child tax credits, you can expect to get your migration letter anytime from July.

And anyone over state pension age who is claiming tax credits will see letters landing on their doormats from August.

Jobseekers allowance claimants will be contacted from September.

All migration letters are due to be sent by the end of 2025. This is three years sooner than planned. Previously, those receiving just ESA  weren’t set to be moved onto universal credit until 2028.
