Financial help from your energy supplier
A lot of us are worried about our soaring energy bills but there is help available. Quite a few energy suppliers offer grants to help customers who are struggling.
So, if you can’t afford your energy bill, the first thing you should do is get in touch with your provider. In the rest of this guide, we provide information on some of the main grants available.
British Gas Individual & Families Fund
You don’t need to be a British Gas customer to apply for this grant. It’s available to anyone who is behind with their energy bill by £250 - £750.
British Gas Energy Support Fund
This is aimed at British Gas customers who are behind with their energy bills by £250 - £1,500.

E.ON Energy Fund
This is open to current and previous E.ON customers who owe the company money after falling behind with their payments. It can also help by replacing old electrical appliances and gas boilers.
EDF Customer Support Fund
If you’re an EDF customer and you’re behind with your energy bills, you may be able to get help from their support fund.
Octopus Octo Assist Fund
If you’re an Octopus customer you may be able to get help paying your bills, a home energy visit, a free energy-efficient electric blanket or the chance to borrow a thermal camera to spot areas of heat loss.
Scottish Power Hardship Fund
If you’re behind with your Scottish Power bill and you get certain benefits or have a low household income, you may be able to get help through their Hardship Fund.
