Families could save thousands by going on holiday at Easter

Families have been encouraged to book their holidays for Easter rather than summer to cut costs.

Families could save thousands by going on holiday at Easter

According to travel agent On the Beach, trips to many popular destinations can be 50% cheaper in April than in July or August.

For example, a ten-night holiday for two adults and one child at a luxury five-star hotel in Corfu would cost just £2,821 if they flew on 14 April.

But if they departed on 14 August, the same holiday would cost almost £6,000.

Late easter offers chance of high temperatures

Easter comes later than usual this year, with Easter Sunday itself landing on 20 April.

That means there’s a great chance that holidaymakers will still get sunny weather and high temperatures.

On the Beach noted that holidaying at Easter means families can enjoy highs of up to:

  • 30 degrees in Egypt
  • 24 degrees in Greece
  • 24 degrees in the Canaries
  • 22 degrees in Turkey

“So you get sunshine, a tan and save a whole lot of cash, all while helping drive down prices for summer,” said chief customer officer Zoe Harris.

More Easter holidays would bring down cost of summer getaways

On the Beach also pointed out that if more people took holidays at Easter, demand would be lower in summer.

This, it said, would in turn lead to the cost of a summer getaway coming down.

“Due to the incredible demand for holidays during summer, and limited availability, prices are increased by hoteliers and flight providers,” Ms Harris said.

“We want this to change, but it’s only achievable if people change their holiday habits.”

Package summer holidays more expensive this year

On the Beach’s advice comes after research from Which? found that summer holidays are getting more expensive.

Figures showed that the average package holiday in summer 2025 costs 4.2% - or £50 per person – more this year.

The biggest increases were seen in:

  • Bulgaria
  • Italy
  • Portugal
  • Cyprus

However, Which? noted that some popular locations are actually cheaper this year, including:

  • the Balearic Islands
  • the Canary Islands
  • parts of mainland Spain

This, it said, is partly because Spain has “a far more established package holiday industry” than the likes of Bulgaria, with many more resorts available to tourists.

Which? added that if families aren’t able to travel out of season, they could cut costs by travelling in late August, as the last week of the school summer holidays is usually the cheapest.
