Five ways to save money on your food shop with Aldi

Despite inflation starting to ease, many shoppers are continuing to budget and look for ways to save on their shopping.

Supermarket giant, Aldi has come to the rescue, sharing with us some insider tips on how to secure even lower prices on your weekly food shop.

From making the most of Aldi’s Super 6 deals to looking out for red stickers on reduced items, here are several ways to keep the cost of your weekly shop down.

Look out for reduced items 

All of Aldi’s UK stores mark down perishable products by up to 75% on their last day of life, including bread, meat, and produce, while imperfectly packaged items like rice, cereal, and tinned food are discounted by 30%.

Both initiatives offer customers the chance to pick up items for even lower prices, while also cutting back on waste.

Reduction times vary by store, and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

But don’t get caught out – while most supermarket’s have yellow stickers to highlight savings, Aldi uses red stickers.

Stick to own-brand products 

Picking up Aldi’s own-label products is a great way to keep costs down without compromising on quality.

Aldi stores are home to an array of own-label alternatives, meaning you can pick up those items you love while saving the pennies.

Last year, analysis revealed Brits could be spending £15.1billion a year on branded products in the big 4 supermarkets.

Buying Aldi own-label could save you a whopping £45 a month - £542 a year.

Make the most of Super 6

Every fortnight, Aldi reveals its latest offers on produce as part of its Super 6 range, as well as running weekly offers on fresh meat and fish.

The supermarket selects six of its favourite fruit and veg to offer to shoppers at super low prices, and at no extra cost to its suppliers.

Aldi works with suppliers all year-round to offer quality products at unbeatable prices, with 100% of its fresh everyday beef, pork and poultry being sourced from British farms, while its fresh fruit and vegetables also all come with Aldi’s Freshness Guarantee.

Too Good to Go 

Earlier this year Aldi rolled out its partnership with the world’s largest surplus food platform, Too Good To Go, across all of its UK stores.

Through this, Aldi now offers shoppers surplus food bags which aim to tackle food waste and lower

prices for shoppers.

The ‘Magic Bags’ contain a range of grocery products that are approaching their sell-by or use-by dates at less than a third of the price, costing just £3.30 each to purchase for at least £10 worth of food.

To get a Magic Bag, shoppers download the free Too Good To Go app and search for their nearby Aldi store, before reserving a bag to collect from the store at an allotted time.

Aldi’s budgeting advice hub

Aldi launched its  ‘Amazing Savings’ advice hub earlier this year, which offers customers access to a wide range of hints, tips and hacks, as well as numerous budget-friendly recipes.
