Need help with childcare costs?
Juggling parenting, school runs, work, keeping the house in order is challenging - financially and logistically.
But there is help available.
30 hours free childcare
If your child is three or four years old and you live in England, you already qualify for 15 hours of free childcare per week.
The 30 hours free childcare scheme is currently only available to working parents of three and four-year-olds.
From September 2025, all eligible working parents of kids aged under five in England will be able to claim 30 hours free childcare.
You can find out how to apply for 30 hours of free childcare and if you’re eligible on the government website.
Tax-free childcare
This UK-wide scheme helps working families, including if you’re self-employed, with kids under 12, or 0-16 if your child is disabled.
You pay into an online childcare account and the government adds 20% - up to £2,000 a year per child.
To be eligible, you have to be working (or on parental/sick/annual leave), earning above minimum wage thresholds and not receiving universal credit or childcare vouchers.
Even if you’re not working, you could still qualify if you or your partner receive certain benefits.
Find out more about eligibility for tax-free childcare on the government website.
