How not to overspend on Amazon October Prime Day
Amazon October Prime Day kicks off today (8 October). This two-day promotional event offers discounts across thousands of items to Amazon Prime customers.
The Prime Big Deal Days sale (as it’s officially known as) will run until tomorrow evening at 11:59pm. This year, Amazon has also expanded its same-day delivery to 81 UK cities and towns, with Aberdeen, Middlesbrough and Plymouth the most recent additions.
This highly anticipated event can be a great way to snap up bargains but, with the ease and convenience of one-click shopping from your armchair, it’s all too easy to get carried away and buy things you can’t afford.
Here are some top tips on how not to overspend on Amazon October Prime Day.
Set a budget and stick to it
To avoid overspending, set a limit on what you can spend and stick to it. Think about what you really need and look at your overall budget to make sure you can afford it.
If you’re already setting aside money for birthdays or Christmas, Amazon Prime Day can be a great way to snap up items at a discount. But make sure you stay within budget.
Is a deal really a good deal?
While Amazon is well-known for low prices, keep in mind that certain items may be cheaper somewhere else, even on Amazon Prime Day.
Before you hit the purchase button, have a look at other retailers online to check that you’re getting the best deal possible. Use price comparison sites like Compare the Market and Go Compare to get a clearer picture of how much an item costs on different websites before you commit to buying it.
Don’t feel pressured
Promotional retail events like this one are deliberately short to make shoppers feel a sense of urgency and to act straight away. But it can lead to ‘panic buying’, resulting in people spending beyond their means.
Even if Amazon is telling you to ‘buy before it’s gone’, go back to your budget to confirm that you really need the item and can afford it.
