To access these discounts, you must sign up for Co-op's membership.

What is Co-op membership?

For £1, Co-op members get:

  • discounts on many products
  • personalised offers
  • access to Co-op events
  • support for local causes

What products are cheaper?

Some of the items that are reduced for Co-op members in the Aldi price match scheme include:

  • pint of milk: 85p from 95p
  • 500g carrots: 38p from 45p
  • 400g Co-op chopped tomatoes: 47p from 62p for non-members
  • medium free-range eggs (6-pack): £1.45 (saving 20p)
  • Co-op tiger bloomer bread: £1.45 (saving 20p)

Where’s the new price match available?

The price match is available in all 2,400 Co-op stores, plus platforms like Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Shop-coop.

What is price matching?

Supermarkets use price matching to stay competitive in the cost-of-living crisis.

Co-op's Aldi price matching scheme, which checks and matches the prices on hundreds of comparable products from GB Aldi stores, is the largest rollout of such a scheme within the convenience store sector.

Other supermarkets have been scaling back on offering the price match scheme, as they struggle to match the budget retailer.

In February, Asda replaced price matching with a ‘Rollback’ scheme, which saw it reduce the cost of more than 4,000 products.

Sainsbury’s and Tesco followed in Asda’s footsteps, dropping the number of products from their Aldi price-matching campaign.

But Matt Hood, managing director for Co-op, said that in this current economic climate, “price is most often the deciding food shopping factor for our members and customers.”

"Which is why we are taking this big step to price match, in our stores and online, as we know discounter prices are often the benchmark of value for consumers, and we are facing directly into that,” said Hood.

Is it worth it?

While Co-op’s price match is a solid deal and great if you use the convenience supermarket, the consumer group Which? finds Aldi, Lidl and Iceland offer the best value for money.
