Up to 50% off train fares
If you’ve got an expensive train journey coming up or you fancy exploring the UK, now’s your chance to rake in some big savings.
A massive rail sale has just launched, offering discounts of up to 50% on train tickets until 20 January.
More than two million train tickets will be available at reduced prices during the Great British Rail Sale, courtesy of the Department for Transport (DfT).
This sale is a great opportunity for anyone looking to travel, whether it’s for a weekend getaway, a visit to see family, or perhaps a cheeky trip to London.
What’s included?
Here are some popular routes you can take advantage of:
- Liverpool to London for as little as £7
- Preston to Edinburgh from £8.40
- Nottingham to Manchester under £10
Important details
These discounted advance and off-peak tickets are available for travel across the UK from 17 January to the end of March.
However, be quick – these deals are limited!
While most train operators are participating, Hull Trains, Lumo and Merseyrail have opted out.
Last year, passengers saved around £5.8m during this sale, so you know it's worth it.
Plan ahead
With train fares in England set to rise in March, this sale is a reminder to plan your trips now.
Whether you're a seasoned traveller or just fancy a day out, take advantage of these discounts while you can.
Save more on train tickets
Train tickets can really add up, so here are some tips to help you find the best deals:
Season ticket
If you travel a lot, consider an annual season ticket. It might save you some cash.
Use National Rail’s season ticket calculator to find out.
Local buses
For short trips, local buses offer £2 or £3 single bus tickets – depending on where you live. Great value for money.
Split your journey
Use a site like TrainSplit or Split Your Ticket.
Sometimes, two single tickets can be cheaper than a return ticket.
Get a railcard
A railcard gives you a third off ticket prices for about £30 a year.
There are options for families, retirees and students.
Book early
Try to book at least 12 weeks in advance for the best deals.
Set alerts on Trainline for when advance tickets come up.
For no booking fees, check National Rail’s list for advance booking dates.
